I have wondered a lot why Europeans are less ambitious. My theory is that it has something to do with the world wars. It must have caused some paradigm shift on the continent, because Europeans of the 1800s seemed far more ambitious and... hopeful? Not sure.
Not that long ago they used to cross the Atlantic ocean in steam ship to chase a dream. Maybe all that emigration to America selected out the ambitious people and left behind the pacified people.
