If inter-family credit is the only credit allowed, then for a family to survive financially it cannot merely earn enough money to eventually pay off all expenses -- it must earn and save enough money to pay any expense immediately. (Triplets? They'll be going to college one-at-a-time.)
If each family needs to stockpile more resources to survive, those resources can't be used productively by the rest of the economy.
