The Adderall Shortage: DEA versus FDA in a Regulatory War (marginalrevolution.com)

Gah I had a horrible experience with prescription Adderall. Sure, you take it and you feel remarkably alert--but since it a) is a drug you habituate to and b) does nothing to fix the underlying causes of your lethargy--you need to up the dose. And then up the dose. And up it again.

Eventually, you are maxed out, being both over stimulated and exhausted at the same time, to the point of complete burnout. I never took illegal drugs of any kind--I was almost 30 before I had my first beer even. But here I was, addicted to meth.

Then when you stop taking it, you experience every single one of the withdrawal symptoms meth addicts feel. You have no energy and no motivation. Your dopamine production is so screwed up that you get no enjoyment out of anything.

And the only thing your doctor can suggest is that you go back on it again. If you do, you start the cycle all over again. If you don't, you are facing YEARS of withdrawal symptoms. It gets better, but I'm not sure you ever get 100% back.

I'm sure that some people benefit from Adderall, and since I'm not a doctor, I'm not going to tell everybody not to take it or give it to their kids. But for God's sake, get a second opinion before you do so, because there are doctors out there who get kickbacks and are little better than legalized drug pushers.

Quite frankly, I just assumed it was the US Government stockpiling for the increasing military escalations/soon-to-be wars happening.
