If you've been paying attention to Jair Bolsonaro, you probably know this is circus peanuts compared to the real problems in Brazil.

> the real problems in Brazil

You can't just say something like that and not elaborate. Tell us about the problems of our country.

Amnesty International had a few words to say on it: https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2021/10/mil-dias-bols...

Bolsonaro? He's been gone for over a year now. Literally banned from politics, persecuted. He'll likely be in prison by the end of the year. Forget about him. Let's discuss current issues. I wonder what that think tank has to say about human rights now since they helped replace him with literal communists.

Yeah, this appears to be some right wing all-American "oh, Lula is socialist!" fear-mongerer...

The west is shaking because Brazil is part of the BRICS?

Do they want to un-BRICS them?

Too big? Let's split?

I heard they feel the same about the USA

> Brazil is part of the BRICS

I wonder why people include Brazil in that group to this day.

Brazil is the only country in that group without a real high tech industry. It's the only one which never developed nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles. It's the only one without a real space program. It's not even got much of an economy these days.

Brazil is basically the world's soy farm and natural resources depot.

> Brazil is basically the world's soy farm and natural resources depot.

Russia too though it's more natural gas and oil than farm and they got nukes and a dying space program.

Brazil officially have a space program though it's very modest. And Brazil supposedly was secretly developing nukes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brazilian_space_program https://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programa_Nuclear_Paralelo

Brazil was included in the BRICs because at the time commodities were booming and Brazil was an important commercial ally. And despite all Brazil still is a top 10 economy with a bigger GDP than Russia.

Reading those pages is just incredibly depressing to me. A GDP top 10 economy, bigger than Russia... And yet such an incredibly anemic technology industry and space program, essentially zero nuclear power and a joke military whose entire purpose is paying out pensions. While the government is churning the corruption machine, India is landing vehicles on the moon and alongside Mexico is set to become the next manufacturing center of the world as corporations move away from China.

This country could be so much more than it is.

> yet such an incredibly anemic technology industry and space program, essentially zero nuclear power and a joke military whose entire purpose is paying out pensions

Brazil was always a rural country with an extractive economy.

The elites don't want a strong military or a strong educated middle class that isn't composed majorly of government employees.

Look at our industrialization policies, which are basically excuses for politicians to:

- take money from the poor and give to their wealthy benefactors;

- protect non-competitive rent-seeking industries which are completely dependant on those policies;

- increase tax revenue (why else tax things for each there's not even an industry like microchips?).

Look at what was done to FEB veterans. The entire division was disbanded throwing all that valuable institutional knowledge in the garbage.

> essentially zero nuclear power

Supposedly Brazil has the full nuclear supply chain and is partially self-sufficient (lack scale).

inaccurate and misleading

Flagged. Propaganda from far right extremists groups in Brazil. They are trying to create this narrative because they are being criminally prosecuted for crimes related with Bolsonaro's coup attempt. Several of them had social media content removed, as is allowed by Brazilian law, because of illegal content (hate speech, threatening, unbased defamation and irregular electoral propaganda) all related with the coup attempt. The same laws are equally applied against all the political spectrum, but suddenly, when they are used against them after a botched coup attempt, they say that this is "dictatorship".
