Greta Thunberg: Activist arrested at Hague climate protest (bbc.com)

This is so bizarre. We're in the middle of a global state of emergency, and people aren't supposed to protest, because they'd slightly inconvenience local residents who wanted to go to the beach.

Oh come of it. Do you think causing major disruption to the life of 'normal' people will change anything at all? Because newsflash: it won't.

These protests of leftist radical psychopaths [1] should be dealt with forthwith.

There is no "global state of emergency", that only exists in your head. Yes, climate change is something we should look into and deal with, but sitting your ass on a highway does not help. At all.

Did Greta walk to the protest? Or did she fly in one of those polluting planes? Ah, thought so.

I think this is a matter of perspective. I live in Canada which has its worst forest fire season in history by 4-5x (using acres burned), which scientists say is directly related to man made climate change. One fire was more than 10,000 acres and right on the edge of my city. As in, we had go-bags packed and were ready to leave if the winds shifted.

Local, yes. Caused by global climate change, yes. So is there a global state of emergency? Matter of perspective but I’d suggest that if there isn’t one there damn well ought to be. Whether it is a forest fire on the edge of your city, or sky’s filled with smoke from fires, or climate refugees pouring over your border, or drought caused crop failures in your country, or hydroelectric dam production capacity falling due to decreased river flow, or massive flooding in your region, there isn’t a single person in a single country on this planet not affected in some way.

Meanwhile in Canada (and I believe in parts of the US as well), along the eclipse path the local authorities are issuing states of emergency for… being unable to handle the tourism.

we are past state of emergency as we have already done damages to the climate that might take centuries to fix and we aren't doing anything.

As for the original question, do you think women would have gain right of vote had they not caused major disruption? The history is filled of many examples of human rights that have change only after massive protests and disruptions.

The psychopaths aren't the protesters, they are the one who are dismissing sharp changes in our way of life as solutions as they are indirectly causing more suffering, deaths and annoyance, which a temporary blocked highway is negligible in contrast.

We block roads all the time, sometimes for things much more futile in the grand scheme of things. Like today I had to reroute because main road I was using was blocked for the organization of a triathlon. And I am not stupidly calling triathletes leftists radical psychopaths because I lost 45 minutes and a lot of sweat as a consequence.
