Retro games often have straightforward gameplay mechanics and unique gameplay elements. I haven't seen any unique and revolutionary gameplay in modern games for a long time...


Retro games have a lot going for them. You're not going to find people trashing or bad mouthing these games because the ones that have survived to be re-playable are generally loved and any misgivings in game mechanics or robotic NPC's, etc. are charming and funny these days. Pick any new game launch and you'll find a bunch of internet trolls picking it apart, noticing crashes, etc. Retro games won't catch any of that hate these days. There's also no micro-transactions.


Microtransactions ruined the experience of the current crop of games. Also DRM and shenanigans like not allowing an offline mode.


The balance between monetization and player experience in the gaming industry is ruined


Games in ye olde days were fun.


And most of them are more meaningful
