Stripe's 2023 Annual Letter (stripe.com)

Converted the PDF to plain text for readability here:

The big thing on my Stripe wishlist is for them to solve the sales tax remittance issue. I don't need Stripe to be a full on merchant of record, but there has to be something more they can do to make the sales tax part of using their service easier.

Stripe does handle sales tax remittance...through their acquired subsidiary TaxJar.

Alternatively, you can use Avalara, which is a lot more expensive. (And since their acquisition by a PE fund last year, a lot buggier.)

Stripe is crushing it. Processing a cool trillion in payments. A full percent of world GDP.

This was much better to read than typical annual letters. I'm not in this space at all so the examples were interesting and helped me appreciate the complexity of the business.

Seems sort of misleading marketing as it seems to imply 1% of GDP = 1% of transactions. By that metric there's probably 5-10 companies who each process 5%+ of world GDP - e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIS_(company)

If any Stripes are here: the link on this page to "2022 annual letter" goes to https://example.com right now.

Thank you--fixed.
