What an awesome nostalgia trip. Especially that VRML article, I worked at a web/graphic studio that specialised in VRML sites for a while. We all knew it was way too ahead of its time to work yet, but companies loved the hype and threw money at us to create “VR” versions of their pages.

It was a really really fun time to be involved in the web in general.


I scanned this old Aussie magazine about the Internet from back in 1996 and was surprised how the first topic was about cybersex and had many articles in it that would now be considered "woke". The internet was really more leftist back then!


It’s remarkable how “woke” has been weaponised. See something that makes you feel uncomfortable? Just label it as “woke”.

Really gives you a sense of the internet as a culture.
