If your fuel pump software doesn't handle leap year, no you should not be considered a professional. That's amateur work.

"Amateur" does not imply incompetence. It only means you're not getting paid. In any field, you will find amateurs who are better at the thing than most professionals, and you will find professionals who are worse at the thing than most amateurs.


Amateur used to mean "one loving" which often meant paying attention to detail.

And it sounds like the pumps worked fine, it was the billing software that went haywire. All the more reason to have fallbacks like cash.
