Very impressive: code, charts, diagrams.

One question: which time zone the data is plotted against?

Hey java-man,

Thanks so much for checking it out, I am the author of the original notebook. I forgot to mention it initially but the timezone is UTC as was already mentioned.

If you have any feedback, would love to hear it as well!

Nowhere on the page does it say UTC.

When publishing, one must always remember to do three things:

  1. explain abbreviations
  2. provide units of measurement
  3. make a spelling error in the title so the reviewers can easily contribute

Oh sorry, I meant as already mentioned by the other commentor. You are right that I forgot to add that to the initial notebook :)

Hahahah I like #3 especially

UTC

What I find somewhat funny about this is, I did a whole analysis to find the best time to post on HackerNews, and posted at the best possible time.

But this post, that was posted on what is supposed to be a worse time actually ended up doing better :)

Thanks a lot for checking it out in any case!

Tangentially related.. When I was at uni I got very bored one summer and started making a spreadsheet of when certain people posted to a message board I frequented. This started with 3 people then became 15. It was very interesting to then plot that because I could make educated guesses about their sleeping habits, when they were at work etc. especially given what they wrote.

I could then make inferences as to their geographical location and other identifying attributes just based on when they were active on this message board. Regrettably I am a data nerd and would love to see such an analysis done on Hckrnews, etc. but I doubt it would be of interest to most others.

could you please do a couple more of these for reddit, facebook, twitter, youtube etc?

Hey vivzkestrel,

I am actually the creator of the original notebook. Happy to do more, do you know of any good datasets for these that would be a good starting points?
