This is corporate propaganda.

It might be dressed up to appeal to the HN mindset, but it's still corporate propaganda from meat producing corporations.

It's exactly in the tradition of the Merchants of Doubt playbook on cigarettes.

That the opposite premise is the propaganda of activist groups means its better?

Both sides of this argument are flooded with propaganda to the point that it has destroyed the possibility of doing real science in the field.


Gary Taubes is a careful science journalist as he has proved in decades of important and thoughtful publications. He may be wrong but he is very far from being a corporate propagandist.

He is also very careful not to sling such accusations at the people who disagree with him, and he continues to affirm their good intent. We should extend him the same courtesy.


He's a hack.

This entire article is about how we can't recommend to eat more vegetables because the science isn't in yet.

His whole career has been recommending diets to people based on half-baked science.

To his credit, he funded science to try to prove the advice he was giving, though after the fact.

To his great discredit he ignored that the science he funded didn't agree with his dogma and just carried on.
