Reads like more of a death of neglect than "tortured and killed". Sure, the whole thing is a sham and the intent was for him to die in prison, but it sounds like they treated him in a relatively respectful + dignified way.
This is a very common tactic in journalism nowadays, you can often tell the bias of the article by whether they say "died after X encounter" vs "killed by X".
Not saying that this particular instance has a strong bias, but in general it's interesting once you start noticing it.
Honestly? The guy came out from a far-right party, in 2007 he said the muslim immigrants should be squashed like cockroaches. Fine that he stood against the Putin government, but as a person I don't give a damn he died
I don't think AP should change the headline, but it's somehow still galling to read "has died" as though it wasn't a political assassination.
