This is what happens when you let risk management lead. This isn’t Taylor making a decision to go after a kid, this is a massive law firm hired to “defend the rights” of their client. At least I’m making that assumption because it’s the most likely situation in my mind.

Flight information is public information. It needs to be. It’s not optional. If you don’t want it to be I’m sorry don’t fly.

But what I was taught is never let your lawyers negotiate for you, because they will default to a framework if risk containment, and tend to escalate situations unnecessarily. Especially ones that require a bit of sensitivity or a gentle touch.

> lawyers ... tend to escalate situations unnecessarily

Results in nice fees for them. Look at the motivations, always look at the motivations if you want to understand why people act some way.

That’s true.

I can also say that after having watched some of my lawyer friends go through divorces there is sometimes some merit to the idea that there is a certain kind of mind that finds problems. Almost a heat seeking missle that’s professionally paid large sums to find the problems in every situation.

Amazing for protecting. Terrible for diplomacy at times.

Similarly the location of your mobile phone is public information, for technical reasons it has to be. Just like aircraft, your phone constantly broadcasts identifying information for all the world to hear. Additionally, just about anyone anywhere in the world can query the phone network for information about which cell tower your phone is connected to.

I suspect many would not be very happy if there was a twitter account tracking the location of their cell phone.

I don’t like my medical information being tracked, but I still have medical records.

I don’t like my driving history being tracked, but I still have insurance and a license.

It’s sucks but a lot of information we might want to not exist… exists. And I have no special place in mg heart that we should make an exception because someone is very wealthy.

I’m baffled that they decided this was a worthwhile thing to do after the bad press/lack of results Elon got for the same thing.

does Taylor Swift advocate 'free speech absolutism' on her own social media network that she routinely prunes 'bad actors' from?

The musk thing was outrage at "Good for thee but not for me" behavior, not the act itself.

However she said that climate change is a "horrific situations that we find ourselves facing right now" and then will whizz off on her private jet.

It is like peak hypocrisy for people to watch something like that. Same for COP meetings full of private jets which are not even taken seriously anymore.

Maybe because it’s a real safety issue?

"He added that he received the threatening letter after media outlets began scrutinising Swift's carbon footprint.

In 2022, Swift topped the list of celebrities with the highest private jet CO2 emissions, according to digital marketing firm Yard.

The organisation found that her jet emission were about 1,185 times more than the average person's total annual emissions."

Maybe she and Elon can file a class action suit.

But she's older than 25...

Please, do sue. Please, do continue to be a conglomerate of intense and acrid desperation, happily hoping to be relevant at all costs. Please, bore us of your antics, and please, be done so we can move on. I wish the era of this individuals appearance in every avenue of life lasted as long as her surname. Alas, it hasn't, and I despair as I look once again in the other direction to give as little attention as possible and somehow, there she is too.

She’s suing to stop someone publishing her realtime location. This is a legit safety issue for people in the public eye.

She’s literally suing for privacy.

You have zero expectation of privacy both legally regarding flying and contractually with society for embracing fame with your fortune. I'm sorry, but this angle never sticks.
