HP CEO Says They Brick Printers That Use Third-Party Ink Because of Hackers (wired.com)

The Streisand effect on this will be slow but sure. Epson, Cannon and Brother, your chance to capitalize and expand bulk ink/solid ink printing (consumers love understanding lower print costs upfront) expands with every article read about this.

The tide has shifted from almost free cost-subsidized inkjet and laser hardware to consumers wanting a 10 year printer they don't mind investing in upfront.

Off topic, but why does Wired always say 'you've read your last complimentary article this month' when I haven't read a Wired article in several years? They're straight-up lying, although I suspect this is due to massively incompetent cookie design rather than pure malice. Then again they are owned by Conde Nast, one of the shittier publishing companies.

HP in the role of the guy who just stumbled upon the dumpster fire of security and now sees conspiracy everywhere to justify vendor lock-in... The chips are in the ink maaaaaaan!

I'd like off the ride now.
