It’s always rich to see software developers working in a “get as many of them as we can afford” industry having such lofty and skeptical views of AI’s impact on labour markets. Not everyone is building compilers at Google. You know how many small businesses will say “I don’t need that copywriter, I’ve got ChstGPT!” It literally already happens. Even if they save the human for “the important stuff,” it still changes the equation.
Of course usually when I say this people begin to walk down the path of what essentially ends up being “yeah, well, that’s not real work anyway”.
