Agreed here. Example: Garmin Golf. Can help track your scores and all sorts of data. Can you export any of that data? NO. Which means you can't do your own analysis and you definitely can't switch to any other golf tracking software.

A while ago I used an app ... can't remember which one now ... but it allowed you to dump your data for no real reason that I could tell. But I appreciated that I could if I ever needed it. It also made me trust the app more.

IMO It should be a policy rule of app stores: - The application/service MUST provide a function to export user data (bla bla bla).

Is this article suggesting that all platforms allow json export of data? Like who would actually want this??

Who wouldn't want that? Obviously, the average user isn't going to know what to do with it, but other apps/services could use it to transfer data to/from it.

Interoperability is always good for users.

This is required by law in the eurozone and has been for some years now.

Users must be able to get their own data exported, in some useful format.

Vote with your wallet, not your rant.

The vast majority of uses will never use that.

And? The vast majority of users aren’t colorblind either, yet it’s always a good idea to include colorblind accessibility options.

That entirely depends on your user numbers.

would love for more STEM folks to have spent time reading through the historical development of various non-STEM -isms. At least try to understand what Marx et al. have theorized even if you know you don't subscribe to their solutions.
