The Twitter case is a great illustration of how the media industry is not like mineral extraction, agriculture or manufacturing. The ability to steer public opinion, however gently, is so valuable politically that media is always going to be controlled by political and not economic forces. When the ADL puts political pressure on advertisers to boycott twitter it makes any talk about an "independent press" completely absurd. The press will do what those with political power tell it to do, or it will go out of business one way or the other. The collapse of X just means Elon Musk isn't doing what the people with the most power in the US want him to do.
