The people who originally wrote those utils are slowly disappearing, and with them the knowledge and ancient C hackery skills. It might be a good idea to have a new generation that can take some of that knowledge and interest and carry it forward into the future.
That'd be great if it were migrating those utilities to modern C using improved modern coding practices but re-writing in some goofy language like rust is dumb.
