I have a mechanical background in automotive specifically so I don’t expect too much technical detail in an article like this, but saying the “wheel fell off” and “suspension collapsed” is like saying the computer “blew up”. The writer could have done a tiny bit more research to accurately describe the problem.
Otherwise I hope this isn't totally accurate. Not because i like musk/tesla, but because it'll be just another case where i'm galled by the fact they were even allowed on the road in this state, and the complete lack of safety standards and consequences.
There's been a guy on Twitter for years posting picture after picture of Tesla "wompy wheels" where you can see the suspension snapped in some minor fender bender. There's no way that NHTSA and NTSB haven't known about this for a long time, they have moonlighting amateurs doing their work for them.
I don't know. Some of these cars are built in a tent. The quality issues really shouldn't surprise anyone.
