A chemical signal in human female tears lowers aggression in males (plos.org)

Incredible if this could be synthesized. We can create natural odorizers that have true "calming" properties.

Sci-fi me though wonders if constant/regular exposure would lead to desensitization to actual crying, like most biological mechanisms.

Actual tear gas

If verified this sounds fantastic for police use. The police could spray it first thing in every encounter, reducing the aggression of both the male police and the other nearby males. I wonder if it has any effect on women. Maybe it should become mandatory in the air in bars. Perhaps it could be an additive to steroids.

Imagine getting so mad and then you just hit an inhaler of tear gas.

1. Small sample sizes

2. No preregistration(?)

3. Finding which will likely be shared on social media virally.

Check. Check. And Check. I’ll put this one very firmly in the “won’t replicate” category.

Oh cool, maybe I'll go harvest some and save them for later

I don't dare to read how they obtained rodent tears.
