Ask HN: Which fictional characters inspire you?

I like to read or watch fiction with inspiring characters.

They are made up, but the way they solve problems provides mental models for similar, real-life situations.

Like the Power Rangers when I was a kid.

I'll give some examples: - The Count from Gentleman in Moscow, because he's so eloquent - Toranaga from Shogun, because of his leadership style - James Bond in GoldenEye, because he's always calm and charming - ...

Do any fictional characters manage to inspire you?

Grossvogel, in Ligotti's The Shadow, The Darkness. I do not want to spoil too much, but what I felt compelling was a character who saw the world as it really is, and made the most of it; instead of complaining about how they thought the world "should" be.

It gave me a new perspective which has stuck with me ever since. Every time I think of it, I feel empowered to think critically and act decisively. Ligotti is dark, but in this darkness lies power.

There are several such characters from the many shows I've watched and books I've read that have inspired a sense of awe and greatness. Most recently, the characters of Dr. Stone (which is just now wrapping up the second half of its third season) have done that.
