Tell HN: Apple would not approve how invasive Apple Music is were it 3rd-party

I find it bizarre that the strict guidelines apple puts in place for app store usability (mainly, needing to be able to use features in the app without signing up or committing to payment) are hilariously and sorely missing from core apple services such as Apple Music. I have a link sharing site for music and couldn't find if the song was correct for linking because to even preview the song you need a subscription. Just to preview it! So how is this cool or helpful? Anyway, just telling y'all.

Of course, Apple indulges in all the anti competitive practices that Microsoft is sued for, and worse.

If the link shows the artist and name of the song, it should be enough? Anyway, preview works if you go to album and then click song. Also in browser. Make your links better.

E.g here is Lady Gaga and Poker face, click preview button or song name to listen:

https://music.apple.com/us/album/poker-face/1440818588?i=144...

Sometimes you get the popup but it does not prevent preview.

Clicking on it opens up Apple Music. Doesn't work not matter what I try to preview the song within the App without subscription.

By command Clicking on it open inside Safari. And everything works fine.

I can verify the links are accurate now because I am using the "three month trial" -- without being signed in can you preview music at all? maybe my itunes is needing an update. I won't dismiss the possibility that I'm an uncouth mongrel savage with out-of-date binaries.

Just tried the link on an incognito firefox and chrome window and I was able to preview the song.

I created and checked the links without subscription or trial (iOS app and browser).

I don’t really understand the point you’re trying to make. You absolutely can use the music app without paying for the subscription by syncing your own media. As others have proven, the previews can even be listened to without creating an account.

What exactly is so invasive about Apple Music?

Apple = Bad

Sorry to hear that.

Apple Music is the only music subscription I have ever signed up for, and I like it a lot.

Wondering how other music services compare to it.

If you know what you want to listen to it’s great. Recommendations are better on Spotify in my opinion, but still better than on Tidal or other streaming services.

For me Apple Music also wins, because there is no other streaming service providing lossless audio at that price.

I went back to Spotify because I find the playlist there a lot better. I only tried Apple Music for a couple of months, when the service was released, so things could easily have changed.

It's possible to save a FLAC copy of music on Deezer. Popular platform for DJs...
