I get convergent apps aren't perfect from the UX perspective, but I often want to make simple applications that do some math, transformation, call to ffmpeg/curl and that can run on desktop and mobile. There is no easy solution that you can write once and run native/jvm code everywhere
In principle you can run JavaFX on Android, but it's not open source and I've never seen it out in the wild
