the receiver is the wrong part to regulate. most people, know it or not, could eventualy learn and master production of a receiver, well enough to perform the task.

not so with barrel; chamber; and bolt. these are parts to regulate. these are the core of the machine. skill, and tooling is a significant barrier to working hard steel alloys to required specs.

The emphasis on regulation in the US has historically been the part that controlled how fast it could fire, hence the receiver.

>Elected officials rely on their police departments — which typically look to save money — to make the arrangements, and they give perfunctory approval with little or no discussion.

My personal pet theory is that a lot of bullshit coming out of police departments is specifically due to a lack of funding. Giving a loose cannon cop access to guns and the legitimacy of the state is cheap, signals authority, and does nothing helpful. Actually doing your responsibility to protect the community is expensive and signals little.

This is a microcosm of that: police want the guns to go away and become someone else's problem, but they don't want to pay for disposal, so intermediaries like Gunbusters do shit like this. Politicians get to paint a rosy picture to low-information voters.

Anyway, REFUND THE POLICE!
