Interview: Sam Altman on being fired and rehired by OpenAI (theverge.com)

A real PR coup. Interview with Sam Altman where he cannot or will not answer the relevant questions. Questions will persist in the vacuum of real information

Why is he giving this interview if they are unwilling to talk about what exactly happened and why?

Publicity. He's getting his and OpenAI's name in front of eyes. And the cloak and dagger routine is almost certainly yet another way to keep people talking longer. It's probably something incredibly boring in all honesty, but if people are talking about how maybe they created skynet or that GPT5 is sentient, that looks really good as far as the team's capabilities.

I'm tired of it, to be honest. At this point, I don't really care anymore why he got booted out. I thought I'd get answers, but it's another waste of time.

Doesn't add too much more to the official company blog post from a couple of hours ago - but interesting that Sam keeps saying he can't talk about what exactly happened during the board coup. One example from the interview:

"Sam: and I totally get why people want an answer right now. But I also think it’s totally unreasonable to expect it.

Verge: Why do you think that’s unreasonable? I think people see a lot of vagaries about what happened."
