Public health care works well when you are young and healthy (and don't need much actual care besides getting regular checkups). It gets bad when you need major surgery and are forced to wait to wait much longer for your surgery than private care.
All of my elderly relatives that live in Canada travel to the US for all major surgeries because instead of waiting 2 years with virtually no choice in doctor or location, they can get the surgery done in a matter of weeks or months with lots of choices.
