$639 is for a Core i7-1165G7 with a defective display and doesn’t include RAM, SSD, or wireless card.

Yeah unless you're doing a headless PC in raspberry pi style, it's not that great of a deal

It looks like you can still get laptops with i7-1165G7s, and there are new, complete laptops with an equivalent Ryzen 4700U/5700U for under $700. Most will have upgradeable RAM and storage.

A barebones NUC with a i7-1165G7 is around $450, has more ports that don't require adapters, and has fully featured Intel-supported firmware.

They don't ship to most countries from the European Union. What makes it so difficult to ship to all countries from the EU? They don't even ship from the EU. They ship from China, Taiwan or some other country from Asia.

They now have notices for using forwarding services on their site. Why would anyone bother to spend so much time and money to be able to give them money? It doesn't make sense.

I'm sure they're reasonable, talented and intelligent people. I'm not going to take their company seriously until they start shipping to the entire EU and to more countries.

They're a small company. Maybe at their current size they can't afford the expense of conforming to European regulations.

You more or less can’t reject people from, I don’t know, Lithuania once you’re shipping to, say, France. It’s either all of the countries or none. (Only took three years to convince Framework their freight forwarding ban was illegal in this case...) Good news is, most things that are legal to ship to France will consequently be legal to ship to Lithuania as well. So no, this does not make sense and never did.

A nice experience, with local payment providers and localized keyboard layouts and everything, is of course much more work. But this has never been what their (prospective) customers were asking for.

What's the best option to buy a framework laptop outside of US. I tried shipping them to a parcel forwarder but they didn't also accept non-US debit cards.

I shipped mine to a friend who forwarded the package to me. They figured out what I'm doing, and I got an e-mail warning me that they'll ship the laptop, but I won't get warranty outside of the country they're shipping to, so not sure I'd recommend doing this.

Worth it, though. It's one hell of a laptop.

There should be a a "used Framework Laptop & Parts marketplace" -- somewhere on the Internet...

Oh sure, there's EBAY and Amazon and Craigslist and other online "for sale"/auction sites/marketplaces -- but it would be nice to have one specifically for Framework laptops...

It would be nice to have one that understands Framework laptops (and subcomponents) -- in the same way Newegg understands computer parts better than any of the above online marketplaces...

But... if someone is going to do that, then why stop there?

Why not create a site for all things Open Source Hardware?

Like a site that just "gets" Open Source Hardware -- and it shows in their interface/query engine -- sort of like the way that Octopart "gets" (understands) electronic parts and components...

Anyway, just a free random idea for the HN/YC Community and the Internet -- anyone that's listening...

Never doubt the ability of an Apple Fanboy to turn conversation into anything about Macs.

Either that or God tier trolling.
