I like how the excerpt carefully doesn't mention how the whole experience made her suicidal from dealing with the general apathy and misandry men deal with on a daily basis. From what I remember reading about the whole experiment, it sent the poor woman into a tailspin and challenged her most basic beliefs about life when confronted with the reality.


I am aware of the sad turn her life took after the experiment, but I would not jump at conclusions about how much weight her experience had on the decision to take her own life: if I am not mistaken she also suffered the tragic loss of her mother and two brothers: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/18/obituaries/norah-vincent-...


I think this interpretation puts too much weight on experiences. Hedonic treadmill shows that experiences have little long term impact on people's ability to suffer life. Her earlier behavior including posing as man idicates that she was far from the average human from the get go.
