Tell HN: Google Translate for Android camera mode depends on Google app

Imagine how surprised I was when after trying to translate some labels Google Translate (Android app) displayed "Update required" dialog, stating that I need to install "Google app" to use camera translation. I have disabled Google app as I don't need it, it is pretty big and is updated too often, so saving space on phone and update times is a priority to me. Are there any at least half decent alternatives for overlaying translations like Google Translate app did, preferably from open source applications that works offline? Or is there any secure method to downgrade Google Translate app to version that did not had an external dependency?

Yeah, Google Translate needs Lens, which is part of the Google App.

Try Deepl, the translations are often better than Google's.

Edit: I also like their Linguee app, which is more like a dictionary.
