So far, AI hasn't been profitable for Big Tech (arstechnica.com)

This will take the ad/surveillance industry to a whole new level because currently this is the only way companies know how to make money. Build something that retains users attention (browsers, search engines, smartphones, TVs, ai chat interfaces), and no matter how amazing the tech behind it has, or how much potential it has, builders will only ever use it for ads. They’ll develop some toy projects like chatgpt for doctors, but ads is where it’s at.


Of course it hasn't. It's a gold rush. Once a winner is established and we're all hooked on the services they will milk it for all it's worth.

For now we're getting it cheap from parties trying to buy markershare. Enough frantic investors looking for the next bitcoin.
