Ask HN: Tech Things to See in Tokyo?

Spending a week in Tokyo in November and was wondering if there are any recommendations for tech related things to see and do there. Thanks

Ride the fastest shinkansen you can get a ticket for.

Take the elevators up to the top of Yokohama Landmark Tower (https://www.businessinsider.com/the-8-fastest-elevators-in-t...).

Take the Yurikamome train to Odaiba (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yurikamome).

You should go to the National Museum Of Emerging Science And Innovation (Miraikan). It has many artistic and educational exhibits, including a demonstration on how networked computers work from scratch with rolling ball machines.

Nice gift shop too.

There is this bar in the center of Tokyo which hosts live coding sessions:

To be honest, I've only heard of this place, but it sounds very promising.

1:1 Gundam in nearby Yokohama: https://gundam-factory.net/en/

Not sure if it counts as tech but the skytree is extremely cool. It makes the city look like a toy set. I stayed there for way longer than I expected to and went twice over a ten day trip (once during the day and then again at night). I think it’s something people often miss doing.

You can stay in this area for good rates in off season. I walked less than 2 blocks to the tree with great Airbnb hosts 2 times last year. Walking distance to lots of other things too. I walked pretty close to aki from there without thinking about it wondering over a 1/4 day.

If you like synths, electronics and related beauty: https://fiveg.net/.

When I was there some years ago they had a full wall modular video synth in.

Akihabara

Second this as well. Entire buildings with multiple floors just filled with anime, tech-related goodies. It's leaning on being quite overwhelming haha

Yeah, if you're there you have to at least check it out. though sadly every year the neat tech stuff seems to keep shrinking.

It’s awesome, I also recommend it.

Teamlabs is worth checking out.

go to the top of the tokyo goverment building in shinjuku great for picture taking or just looking

(they were so nice they had to look in my dslr bag. you are forgiven senpai, you can't control what came before)
