I would love to see more hardware companies making their firmware available this way. Motherboards, SSDs, hard drives, game controllers... almost all seem to require either having a Windows installation or booting the computer from a mystery image. It doesn't have to be this way.
I do appreciate the motherboards that let you update straight from the BIOS, or even better without a CPU (ie: BIOS flashback) for when your current motherboard doesn't initially supports the CPU you just purchased.
