Where is he? I ask because in the Northeast most game is taken at relatively short distances, tens rather than hundreds of yards. That's one heavy rifle to lug around if he's stalking. The old school Model-94 30-30 is around seven pounds and considered heavy.
West TN. He uses a 4 wheeler and tree stands as well as hunting a couple large cornfields. I doubt he'll be doing it that much longer, if he hasn't already given up; I know his knees bother him.
