Huawei releasing faster phone competes with Apple. Here's why the US is worried (cbsnews.com)

This is just an opinion, but I think that in the long term, we will discover that both these type of trade sanctions and the weaponizing of the US dollar will hurt us.

I understand what our government is trying to do, and why, but I think in this case they are making the wrong decisions.

Of course the unintended side effects will dominate. That won't stop those in power from trying things that increase their ego.

The best part about this kind of meddling is that it feels good now. It gets votes now, but the pain is only felt in the future so others feel that pain.

It's a win-win-win.

Such a clickbait title (anything that goes "Here's why...") and a dumbed down article. The "why" is because despite sanctions, Huawei seems to have been able to make 7nm chips.

Also, the topic been posted talked about a lot this past week: https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=pastWeek&page=0&prefix=fal...

Umm yeah but mostly bottom of the barrel stuff, riddled with bloatware. We had some at work and it was impossible to use them out of the box without constantly being interrupted by celebrity news popups.

It was the kind of phone for a price that won't even buy you a pair of AirPods :)

Our company wanted to replace all the company Samsung phones with these but people hated them. And then trump happened so they had to go back on it anyway.

Huawei had some of the best (personal opinion: the best) Android phones on the market back then. They had the best cameras, the phones looked really nice (if you care about that), and the specs were on par with flagships. They modified Android to make it feel more like iOS, but it wasn't nearly as annoying as what you're describing - I would prefer Huawei's Android to Samsung's.

ASML said they can skip predicting orders for EUV. I would assume that there is one more generation of chips at at least 5nm that achina can hit. The sanctions aren’t working.

That said I have a really hard time believing the Mate 60 is a real competitor to Apples chip’s and phone, they are 1 full process behind. Additionally, this feels like China pushing back on apple similar to the government ban implemented this week.

What would a real competitor? The gap is closing, has closed in any meaningful way. I use a phone with a 7nm processor and won't be upgrading anytime soon.

The title doesn’t make sense, is it something to do with the keyword removal thing?

Faster isn’t anything in mobile.
