Ask HN: Recommendation for Hosted Email Service

I recently used the premium version of namecheap email service and most of my emails were rejected saying high probability of spam.

These emails were a reply to other people's email so definitely not spam. Looks like Gmail is being super aggressive in rejecting emails from competitors.

What are current recommendations for hosted email service that can deliver emails reliably?

I typically write and receive just a few emails a week.

Is this for a custom domain? With any mail service using a custom domain, you'll need to configure your DNS with SPF and DKIM (and preferably DMARC) to ensure acceptable delivery to the big guys. I can't speak directly to Namecheap, but sending mail from any custom domain without SPF and/or DKIM is going to go poorly these days regardless of host.

If you haven't already done so, read this first: https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx...

Given Fastmail is in many respects very good, iy is all more important to know that it has a severe deliverability problem wirh Gmail, in that a singificant number of messages autoforwarded by FM to Gmail are rejected - with no notification to the adressee. Support says this issue is not specific to Fastmail anc is expected to worsen.

My guess is the provider uou need is one having a high discouragement to spammers i.e. high cost. I have yet to find one that charges per sent message.

I'm happy with Migadu with a custom domain: https://www.migadu.com/
