I saw a Superb Lyrebird in Australia just outside Melbourne. They are beautiful birds and once of the largest passerine species in the world (birds are divided into passerines and everything else. The class Aves consists of orders, and order Paseriformes (passerines) make up about half of the birds).

One of my favourite animals.

Not quite. Aves is divided into Palaeognathae (which includes Ostriches, rheas, kiwis and emus amongst others) and Neognathae. Passerine is the largest order within Neognathae, but sits along side pigeons, ducks, flamingos and some others.

"The lyrebirds’ performances are a classic example of an excessively complex trait or behavior that was likely shaped through sexual selection."

One cannot help but consider humans through this same lens.

Some people certainly can't help doing so. Interestingly, the point here is that Darwin was wrong. Or at least incomplete.
