Wannabe Twitter/X Killer “Threads” not quite living up to the hype (bloomberg.com)

What does live up to the hype in this kind of situation? And why does every alternative to an incumbent need to be described as, or positioned as, a killer of that incumbent? It rarely, if ever, happens.

Meanwhile, Threads is in top 3 downloaded apps on iOS, while Twitter has dropped to 70. Interesting, isn’t it?

Not interesting. Just expected, considering Zuck made it a one click DL for Instagram users.

If downloads was a measure of interest engagement of Threads then usage would be expanding exponentially.

What i found interesting was the almost total collapse in Threads usage that is charted in the article.

The hype train appears to have run out of steam.

Threads is a new app, and most people already have Twitter?

Sure, but the App Store rank doesn't just measure new uploads. It measures also app usage and even adds in app updates. New downloads are a very strong component of course, but supposedly Twitter is adding millions of users every month. And most of them ever get the app. Something is clearly off.

I mean downloads not uploads in the first sentence.
