I assumed this to mean "around 1". But really, why be coy in a scenario like this? Just say the damn number... it's not going to change anything.

There's no single number. Ranges from 1/4MM to 1/2MM depending on when/how you account stock grants, 401k matching, ESPP, etc.
If it doesn't change anything why make a big deal about it?
