Not necessarily. Bail bonds can be secured with other assets like a house, or a bail bondsperson can secure that bond for a fixed fee, which can be a few percent of the total amount.
If you are bonded out and work with the court, then your guarantee is returned to you (minus bail bond fees if you used a bondsperson). Otherwise, your assets are seized and if you are using a bondsperson, you now owe them the full amount of the bond.
