There are hundreds of these "free databases of AI tools", and I get daily emails from the owners of these things asking me to "list my tool for a fee".
They all have different mechanics. "Boost your visibility", "turn off norefer", etc.
There's a race to build AI tools, but there's also a race to sell tools (and marketing).
Here's a sample from my inbox:
- aiwizard.ai - "We offer both FREE and premium listing options. Our free listing provides a basic presence, while the premium option delivers advanced features like full step-by-step tutorial & review creation, priority placement, highlighted listings, and direct links to different sections of your website, enhancing your visibility and customer engagement."
- domore.ai - "To improve your page's SEO ranking, we'll remove the 'rel=nofollow' attribute on all links leading to your portal from us."
- domore.ai (again) - "Pricing varies depending on the position, for instance, Spot 4 is priced at $110, while Spot 22 is just $20."
- 2030tools.com - "As we value accuracy and transparency, we would like to invite you to review the information we have provided on our website about your tool. We would be grateful if you could take the time to verify its accuracy and let us know if there are any changes or updates that need to be made."
- faind.ai - "Listing your tool on our platform is an incredible opportunity to gain exposure towards more than 20k active users this week"
Twitter and social are also listing tons of these "You've heard of chatGPT but these are the next ...", half these posts look like clones of each other but they all seem to have a huge amount of shares.
I remember del.icio.us from a long time ago was chocked full of top 100 lists, for example giant directories of free OCW courses. Stuff no one ever goes through, but everyone feels like they have to bookmark to go through it later.
Any guesses on the average lifespan of the tools on these lists? I'd bet 25% of them are already non functional. 1% have any shot at popularity / profitability. I'd say 90% will be gone within the next 8 to 12 months - including this site itself. And that's being generous.
That's my observation. I run a relatively popular software marketplace/directory where people submit and present their software products. AI related tools is hottest topic for sure. However, as you've guessed, many of them are either disfunctioning or seem to be abandoned.
To me, it's like a gold rush where everyone is trying their luck. My expectations - a small portion will make it, and then they will be acquired by the "whales".
I'm guessing many of these aren't legitimate to start with.
Two of those copy writing tools with different names are using the same promotional picture with the same lady.
This is probably the 50th 'list of AI tools' that I have seen here which does almost exactly the same as the rest of them, with 90% of the tools showcased going bust in the next 8 years.
The grift continues, replicating itself as we observe the great race to zero.
I'm creating one with a job board, tools, awesome GitHub projects, research paper, and hopefully an awesome search powered by gpt, namely you will be able to ask questions from the aggregate of all ai research papers we index. It'll also feature a marketplace for bots and services related to ai and automation... also investment data. An API so it's an actual database, ie all the data can be repurposed, etc.
