The day my ping took countermeasures (cloudflare.com)

I'll start appending “taking countermeasures” to all of my error messages.

“The username or password is incorrect, taking countermeasures!”

“There is insufficient disk space to complete operation, taking countermeasures!”

Another good one to use is "cowardly refusing to continue."

He made that sound awfully complicated.

Time of day in Linux is easy; it's as easy as naming things, cache invalidation, and off by two errors.

This is a great deep dive. I knew that message had something to do with the system clock being slightly off (I saw it often while using ping in containers) but never thought to go deeper. I also didn't know about vdso; that's awesome.
