These old films had no wise-cracks, loads of information, no clowning around, no vamping, no meme references, no personal details... I actually posted this pre-Youtube tutorial because it drove home to me how poor so much "content" in our current era is.


I agree wholeheartedly. There used to be a lot of YT channels that would restore and make available public domain military training films from the 30s and 40s. Marvelous presentations that get to the point and stay there. Mysteriously these channels keep disappearing because someone is asserting copyright to otherwise free material.


Perhaps there are still copies on archive.org - I do see a lot of results for my quick search, but I don't know which videos you've seen or whether what I find is the same as what you consider relevant.

This is great, but wow, those components are so big! After spending the morning reworking boards (thanks ST Micro...!) while working under a magnifying glass, I realize I really need to practice tiny soldering more.
