My corner of urban Michigan had no fireflies (we call them "lighting bugs" here in the Midwest) when I was growing up. I only saw them visiting family in rural Illinois.
Recently moved back after about ten years, and here they are! Anyway, this is probably flukey and specific to the particular industrial decay curve in my city, but it is nice.
