This would have been a much more useful article if they included stats for 40 year olds, not married, but in long term relationship...


In many countries long term relationship + cohabitation becomes legally equivalent to a marriage, after a number of years.



Because marriage is historically about ownership and contractual agreement, and is tied to religion (which is also on the decline finally)? Sounds quite sane and rational. Why someone would pay the government to be recognized as a couple, and then pay again, at least 3 times as much, to be divorced makes absolutely no sense. Consider that money stream dried up.
