Signal is not on F-Droid. Signal sends their lawyers after open-source app repos for including their app.
I think the only claim they have is their trademark name "Signal". I wonder what's a good name for packagers to use for apps like this. Reminds me of Firefox and IceCat, or Rust Lang and Crab Lang.
It would merely be annoying if it was just about a trademarked name, but it's worse than that. They actually forbid using their infrastructure from non-official clients.
Trademark doesn't mean you can't say “Signal” at all. You can officially call it Whatever but then always say “Whatever (like Signal)” or “Whatever (Signal-compatible)”.
