Income is only very loosely related to class. My salary is about 120kUSD, Jeff Bezos' salary is a mere 84kUSD. Somehow I don't think of him as poorer than me though...
If my company, which I own, loans me 1bn usd for .1% interest, I have an asset and a big negative income. So I am very poor.
Or take me and my neighbours: I earn 120k (so I am rich), and pay a very high rent (so I am rich with no disposable income or assets!?). Meanwhile they own a >1mUSD property, pay no rent and have only 40k (tax free income). So they are poor as they spend 3.5k a month!?
People have been subconsciously and unintentionally sold this idea that wealth and income are related. They are at best very weakly related, and often in specific cases that relationship is negative.
