A timely post, considering that news was published today revealing that the FBI abused 702 data access restrictions to spy on US citizens within the US.

Any bets on whether or not any FBI personnel will be prosecuted over this?

Wow, I can't believe they did that. They promised they wouldn't.

Encrypted the web – sure but with SNI, the ISP intermediaries can still see all the metadata – and collect it (like CDR) - client IP address, the domain they are visiting, duration of each session and frequency of such visits. With this information, they can know what phone, laptop and other smart devices they are using and infer a lot about their personal life. They can also target them for specific hacks based on this data – just like they did with phone CDR data.

Just a reminder that the US has been in a state of emergency since 9/11 to allow the patriot act to be valid.

> under the intense scrutiny of public attention, some of the National Security Agency’s most egregiously illegal programs and authorities have shuttered or been forced to end.

Whatever they're smoking, it must be really strong. /s

Is EFF involved in some comitee which controls the 3 letter agencies which lead them to this conclusion ?

Things don't seem better for Assange or Snowden, unfortunately.

Civil liberties must be fought for, and governmental transparency and oversight is necessary, but Snowden is a piece of shit for what he did.

Snowden is a national hero. Those who attempting to prosecute him for exposing violations of the constitution should be jailed.
