For any historical-context addicts out there, Evan Thomas’ “The Very Best Men” is a grounded yet engaging study of the run-up to the Church Committee that I highly recommend. It spends a lot of time on the backroom dealings and connections that the CIA used to keep their dirty laundry out of the press, as covered in this article.
