Would you present software development to a bunch of preschoolers

It's all in the title, I've got this presentation to do for my kids school. I don't have lots of time to prepare, I wanted to maybe just explain to them that programming is how you talk to computers and phone, and do a small demo of me changing the font, color and stuff like that of youtube or netflix

Well as coding is going away. Perhaps just show them how to login to ChatGPT and how to engineer a prompt to code. Oh an how to write requirements documents and manage an Outlook calendar. :)

In more seriousness, from personal experience, I’ve found is that when talking with younger children things need to be highly visual and interactive to keep attention.

The changing font idea is good.

An extension of that might be showing Scratch in real time and making changes or perhaps an Arduino and some LEDs.

Close enough to what I would have gone for. Programming is a special way to tell computers to do stuff. Then, give them a list of things to act out (so it'll be a little more fun). For example:

1. Stand up.

2. Take two steps forward.

3. Pick that pencil on the table.

4. Give it to that person.

5. Take two steps back.

6. Sit down.

Now that's a program!
