I have often referred to France as "the Florida of Europe." And now Ron DiSantis wants to crush my beer cans and cancel my special district status.


Why do you refer to France as the Florida of Europe?


Mostly to irritate Frenchmen and the few Floridians who know that France exists.



You're right that these are the same story, and that's the criterion we apply, even if the articles are different.

However, the earlier one didn't get significant attention, so it's not a dupe in the sense that we would downweight the later post. We should merge the threads though.

The WSJ and Washington Post are not the same publication. These are two different articles by different authors.


The articles seem materially identical to me; is there something I missed that's in the WaPo article that's missing from the WSJ article?


It's the same news event, but it's not the same article. Perhaps one is written better, or is somehow more appealing to HN? Who knows. Not sure if "materially identical" would account for that.
